  • Walden by Henry David Thoreau
  • He wanted to live a simply, which he believed would give him a simpler understanding of life
  • He also had another purpose- to reconnect with mother nature. Within a week of his stay, Thoreau had acquired a deeper appreciation of nature.
  • Thoreau depended on himself to catch his food, including cutting through ice in the winter to get his water.
  • At the end of his experience, Thoreau had an understanding that his simple living surrounded by nature brought him spiritual wellness.
  • The author returned to his town and decided to spread his theory that simple living led to a simpler understanding of life, and that anyone was capable of it.
