Storyboard Text

  • England, 1765
  • The Stamp Act
  • The colonists were taxed on stamps so that the British would come out of debt from the French and Indian War.
  • I can't believe we're getting so much money just by making those stupid little colonists pay for stamps! No more debt! We're saved!
  • The British taxed the colonists on tea, and considering tea was a big deal back then, they got mad. To prove that they don't have to follow these rules, they threw tea into the Boston bay.
  • A few years later in the Colonies...
  • December 16, 1773
  • I was just enjoying my afternoon tea when I heard that these barbarians were throwing theirs into the bay! We provide for them and in return they lose £9000 worth of tea!
  • The Intolerable Acts, 1774
  • Boston Port Act
  • After the Boston Tea Party, to punish the people of Boston, the British made  the Intolerable Acts. The Boston Port Act closed down the Boston Port until the colonists payed  for the tea they threw into the water.
  • Those cruel English really know how to hold a grudge! I can't go visit my dying mother because the Boston port is closed! It's not like all of us threw that tea into the bay!
  • Massachusetts Government Act
  • This was another one of the intolerable acts. They shut down the Massachusetts government and the British took their place.
  • I lost my job to those Brits! I had a wonderful job in the Massachusetts government and they just take it away! Now I'm just a lowly farmer! I will get revenge!
  • Administration of Justice Act
  • This act allowed trials of accused English to be held in England to have a fair trial.
  • YES! They'll never know...
  • I find the defendant not guilty! This man did not commit murder! This court is adjourned.
  • 2nd Quartering Act
  • This was the second out the the two quartering acts. The difference between this and the first one was that not the British soldiers could stay in the colonist's homes instead of just public housing in towns.
  • I love this! Free food! Free house! Free everything! Those poor colonists never saw this coming!
