Storyboard Text

  • Nestlé signed the Harkin-Engel protocol in 2001 agreeing to work towards ending child labour.
  • Do you agree to stop using children on your farms
  • Yes we agree
  • Four years later in 2005, a human rights lawyer claimed that Nestlé gave considerable assistance to plantation owners who used child labour.
  • You guys promised to eliminate the use of child labour on your farms!
  • Sorry!
  • The Fair Labour Association (FLA) inspected 260 farms that resided in the Ivory Coast and found 27 workers under the age of 15 working on farms.
  • Oh my!
  • I want to go home
  • We're working for free?
  • The FLA also found that some children were held against their will, separated from their families, and forced to work without getting paid.
  • Where's our money?
  • Here you go
  • As well, they found 24 children who were unable to get an education as they helped their parents and siblings on farms.
  • I want to go to school!
  • Sorry but we need help
  • On the farms, children were expected to work in hazardous conditions and carry out dangerous activities including the use of machetes and working with heavy loads.
  • This is really unsafe
  • My back hurts
