  • My family and I were transported here to work on a Cotton Plantation. My poor children have to work at such a young age!

  • Africans were brought to America as Slaves. They worked mostly on Cotton and Tobacco plantations.

  • I know, and our soil is rocky, so we have to fish for a living.

  • Hey Brother, look our very own hometown, Boston, is now a main port!
  • Wow, look at that large cargo ship coming in now!
  • Because Boston was near the sea, it became a main port area. Because of the rocky soil, citizens fished and whaled for a living.

  • Hey, did you know that New Jersey's soil is very fertile?
  • The Middle Colonies
  • Yeah, and the climate is mild, not too cold and not too hot.
  • The middle colonies had fertile soil back then like today. That is why New Jersey is called the Garden State.
  • Did you know that most big cities have factories producing products such as paper?
