After news that Giles Corey and Francis nurse's wives had been arrested for witchcarft, officers of the court arrive and arrest Elizabeth.
Proctor tells Mary that she has to go to court and tell the judges that Abigail and her friends are all lying but Mary Warren is scared in case they turn on her.
Proctor forces Mary to confess the girls are lying to the court, Judge Danforth is suspicious and tells Proctor that Elizabeth is pregnant and will be spared for a while. Mary confesses to the court and when the girls are brought in, they turn the tables and accuse Mary of bewitching them.
Proctor confesses his affair with Abigail so Danforth summons Elizabeth and asks her if her husband ever had an affair. Elizabeth lies to protect John and Danforth pronounces Proctor as being a liar, and he is arrested.
Elizabeth convinces John Proctor to confess to the court that he conspired with the devil to save his life and the lives of other people that had been accused of witchcraft.
When the court wants Proctor to sign the confession, stating he conspired with the devil and that he comitted adultery, he rips up the confesion, to save his name, and it results in him being hung.
