John Bunyan (1628-16880 - Pilgrim's Progress
Christian opressed by guilt because of Man's sins, leaves his city which he believes will be destroyed by fire. He fails to persuade his wife and children to accompany him, and so travels alone in search of the Heavenly City. On his way, he passes through many places, such as the Slough of Despond, the Valley of the Shadow of Death, and Doubting Castle. He meets other plgrims on the read, among them Mr Worldly-Wiseman, Money Love, Hopeful and Obstinate.
Christian has just been joined by Faithful who has been behind him on the road. He relates to Christian the adventures he has had on the journey so far.

What a flattering tongue she had; she lay at me hard to turn aside with her promising me all manner of carnal and fleshly content. So I shut mine eyes, because I would not be bewitched with her looks, and I went my way

I am Adam the First, I dwell in the town of Deceit, my work is many delights...

I have but three daughters: The Lust of Flesh, The Lust of the Eyes, and the Pride of Life.
When I come to his House, he will sell me for a slave.
