Social Responsibility: In the text it states that Monique knew she had to protect her friend at all cost.
Comparison to your own life:
In the story a two girls names Monique and Servine become friends when Monique finds Servine in her room one night and thinks she is a ghost. Sergvine's family is hiding in Monique's basement from the Nazis because they are Jewish.
Monique is so sad to see people hurt by the Nazi Soldiers, she realizes what happened to them when a soldier killed a butterlfy in his hands and then laughed infront of her.
The butterfly became a symbol for the victims of the Nazi soldiers. Servine survived the escape from Monique's house and the two girls are friends to this day.
