Two parents, George and Hazel, are living in a world where everyone is made to be equal. They have a son who is exceptional, so the government has him arrested and thrown in jail so the rest of the public wouldn't cower at the sight of him. The text states, "And it was in that Clammy month that the H-G men took their fourteen year old son Harrison away." Pg.-4
Harrison, eventually escapes from prison and is now looking to overthrow the government that bound him in handicaps. The government makes a public broadcast about his escape, and is now working to neutralize him as soon as possible.
Harrison gets on a stage in front of everyone and crowns himself emperor. He tears of the handicaps that would make people wince when the government commanded. "Harrison tore the straps of his handicap harness like wet tissue." p. 9
The handicap general comes into the room and shoots the emperor and empress in synchronized action. This leaves the whole room in consternation. "The Handicapper general came into the studio with a double barreled 10-gauge shotgun and fired twice, the emperor and empress were dead before they hit the ground." pg. 11
With vigilance, they made sure to censor the whole scenario from the public. So the Bergeron's TV they were watching on blew a fuse, and it was as if nothing happened. "It was then that the Bergerons TV tube burned out."
