Storyboard Text

  • What was the Embargo Act of 1807?
  • I'm Thomas Jefferson and I issued the Embargo Act of 1807. Since this was a major problem I was not re-elected a for president.
  • Thanks for crippling our economy!!
  • Is there still embargo acts?
  • That sounds pretty bad, Is there still embargo acts today?
  • Yeah there actually there are still embargo acts. Take Cuba for example...
  • October 19, 1960. Havana, Cuba
  • How could the US do this to us Cubans?!?
  • The Embargo Act of 1807 banned trade with the US and foreign countries. US ships could not sail to foreign ports and US ports were closed to foreign ships. This crippled the US and had little effect on other countries.
  • What other Embargos are there?
  • That is the only embargo....right?
  • One modern day embargo act the US has implemented to was Cuba when it was communist.
  • 평양, 북한
  • The US will not stop us North Koreans. We will thrive even with trade bans and heavy sanctions.
  • On October 19, 1960, US president Dwight Eisenhower imposed the first embargo on Cuba due to their dictator, Fidel Castro. This was imposed because Castro's' popularity began to decline in the US. He imposed heavy taxes on US imports.
  • That's All!
  • As you can see there are many modern day embargos.
  • Another modern day embargo can be North Korea due to its many sanctions and heavy trade bans.
  • I don't know.... I can't think of any others.
  • Actually there is many countries with full or partial embargos on countries...
  • Having a bad relationship with North Korea already, the United Nations has placed crippling sanctions that are meant to destroy the economy. The Us has also stopped trading with North Kore. This embargo of sorts has been placed since the beginning of the Korean War.
  • Thanks for reading!
