An epic tale of how Hurricane Gilbert impacted the life of a young boy by the name of Gerard in Jamaica in 1988
Hello My Name is Gerard and I am looking forward to my big football match four days from now at school.
Hurricane Gilbert, Jamaica
2nd day at school
Only two days to go before I score the winning goal !
Wa Wa Wild Gilbert
But Alas ! It was not meant to be!! the weather had other plans and all school events were now cancelled as Jamaica was in full preparation mode for the impending storm that was soon to become HURRICANE GILBERT
This story illustrates how Hurricane Gilbert impacted the life of a little Jamaican boy during its passage in 1988
Petrol for Motorists
Gerard is pumped ! He is in full preparation mode for his big game. He is leading contender for MVP; being the top scorer of the competition so far
Major disappointment ! The focus has now been shifted to preparations for the impending storm and all schools islandwide have been shut down!! Gerard must now focus on helping his family to prepare at home for what will soon prove to be a major catastrophic event for the island of Jamaica.
A New Day
Gerard's parents had to go fill up their cars on petrol at the gas station in addition to getting extra food supplies, batteries, candles, matches, tape and emergency equipment for his family.
After the storm had passed the island of Jamaica had sustained much damage inclusive of loss of lives. Thankfully Gerard, his big sister, mother and father were spared although their home had received some damage.
Even though hurricanes are a common theme in the Caribbean, small islands such as Jamaica have proven themselves to be quite resilient in nature and continue to 'weather' the storm
