  • In this scene Oedipus reveals his excessive pride by calling his subject to label him as king.
  • Peripeteia: A reversal of Fortune
  • In this scene, Oedipus is shown to reveal his flaw in this play by lacking knowledge to his true purpose in Thebes.
  • Angnorisis: Character's recognition or discovery
  • The Irreversible fate is that when he escaped to Thebes from Corinth, that when is when he stayed on his path to his fate.
  • Catharsis: The mood the audience is left with.
  • This is when the messenger of corinth tells Oedipus the grave news of his father and starts to realize everything is starting to fall into place.
  • In this part of the play Oedipus now realizes his inescapable fate.
  • In the ending of the play, Oedipus finally accepts punishment and blinds himself as a sign that he was blind to the truth all this time.
