I wish I had friends to talk to. No one is compatible with me.
Oh! Hello there, I'm Nitrogen! Who are you?
Hi, we are the 3 Iodine triplets! Want to be our friend?
Nitrogen Triiodide is known to be an extremely unstable covalently bonded substance which can explode into Nitrogen gas and purple Iodine vapor.
Of course I will be your friend!
Yay! Group Hug!
Meet Nitrogen, with 5 valence electrons he is eager to meet anyone to get him happy and full. But he is lonely at the moment.
Man, we feel awesome together! Nothing can stop us!
Triplets of Iodide atoms that combine with the Nitrogen atom sharing 1 electron each .
The atoms are currently bonding to form Nitrogen Triiodide
Now that they have bonded into Nitrogen Triiodide they are extremely sensitive to touch. It could explode because of the arrangement of the iodide atoms surrounding the smaller nitrogen atom. They are aranged close together, so close that they repel each other and any external force could cause them to fall apart.
The end result is an explosion purple iodine gas and toxic nitrogen gas.
