I would pretend to be asleep after she finishes a story, because I would get so into it, I forget I'm supposed to be sleeping...
As a kid, my mom used to read us stories- the classics: beauty and the beast,etc... They were in Arabic, and I wanted to read the same way she did; with different voices and with fluency.

I would sleep with a movie playing in mind. I would make up my own endings and then make sure my mom finishes the original ending
Unlike my siblings, my parents didn't speak English with me since I was born, simply because they didn't know much of it. This made English the subject I struggled with the most as I earned the lowest grades. It didn't help when I changed into an all- English curriculum.
My parents saw that reading would help me, seeing that I was reading a whole Arabic book in a day by now, making my Arabic accent not sound like that of a child lacking teeth.
My dad and I's passion in watching movies and tv shows have also influenced this. Think of it this way: you are exposed to so many things that require creativity either from yourself or another party, why limit yourself? I never say no to a challenge.
