in a old hound, laying barely alive, was Argos. He was a trained dog by Odysseus. when Argos heard Odysseus voice he did his best to pick up his head and wag his tail, but could not."Abandoned there, and half destroyed with flies, old Argos lay" (17.694).
Eumaeus walks in to where Odysseus is at with the dog, Argos. "I marvel that they leave this hound to lie here on the dung pile"(17.694).
Eumoeus told Odysseus "A hunter owned him-but the man died" then they look at the dog and see he his dead (17.695).
