One day, a massive earthquake hit the state of North Carolina and a family had to suffer extreme amounts of damage. They were fine, but they had to pay the price of repairs.
Mary, who's the child of the family, overheard her dad and step-mom talking about getting support from a program called TANF! It's a program that can give money to families for children and to keep stable marriages.
Thomas explained to his wife that TANF could help because it's for needy families like them! Thomas previously lost his job and the program could help him get another one. It could also provide for Mary at home, considering her mom died only 2 months ago.
Applying for TANF gave Thomas more job opportunities. After a few job interviews, a restaurant manager took him in as a waiter! Thomas was back on his feet, and back to serving meals to customers. This slowly put the family back in a stable position over time, but Thomas wants to pursue a better paying job in the future.
The money TANF offered for child care really made a difference at home. Carrie and her step-daughter felt safer and happier knowing they had financial backup. Mary was also able to continue her dance lessons. Carrie and Mary spent more time together.
After a year, their family became almost completely stable! After regaining his job, Thomas aided his wife in paying to go back to college. Mary still enjoys taking dance classes and has accepted her mother's death. Everyone's happier and joyful with their situation.
