  • Goodbye, Burnum! We hope you seek what you have been preparing for. We are so proud of you!
  • What a beautiful place..
  • Come forth, spirit guide! Show me where I have to go and what I have to do!
  • Burnum is an incredible teenage boy. He is 15 years old and lives on a reserve with his mother, father, and younger brother. He has been preparing for his vision quest for a year now. He has proven himself to be an intelligent, hard-working individual through his preparation. Once his parents and the elders believed he was ready, Burnum embarked on his journey to seek direction in life. Taking nothing but his clothes on his back and his determined mind, he set off in his path.
  • Burnum's travels brought him to a sacred place that his father had taken him to hunt and fish for many years. It holds dear in his heart. He had traveled to a beautiful lake just off the reserve, often used for vision quests, where he prepares to stay for a few days. In his solitude, Burnum wonders about his vision. He was both excited yet anxious to begin a new chapter of his life, and he knew that if he was determined and strong enough to overcome his few days here, he would be gladly accepted into his community as an adult.
  • Adulthood, here I come!
  • A few days have gone by and Burnum was exhausted but mentally prepared for his vision at any given moment. He yearned so badly to fall asleep, yet his prayer and meditation kept him going. He has so much hope for his quest, and as he sits under the shielding walls of a nearby cave, fasting, praying, and meditating, he can only hope that his time would be soon. He prays to the spirits to show him his vision that will guide him through life. This intense experience has only heightened his curiosity about his vision, despite his exhaustion.
  • You will be a great man one day, Burnum.
  • ..Wow..
  • After a long period of fasting, praying, and meditating, Burnum finds himself pacing between the forestry near the lake. Under the moonlight, he starts to think that he just may not see a vision. Just then, an aura gleams in through the gloomy shadows of the trees, illuminating the clear perception of what Burnum believes is a bear. He is not scared, he does not want to run. He is in awe as he stares, mesmerized by the calm stature of the bear. The bear carries an aura of power, and its eyes reflect back to Burnum's.
  • The spirit gave Burnum insights into his future life role. Burnum always knew that he was a strong leader figure, and after his vision, he could not stop smiling. The spirit guide taught Burnum to stay strong and always set an example for everyone else through tough situations. Burnum also learned that he will be a protector and powerful figure. The spirit taught Burnum about the laws of boundaries as well. With this knowledge, Burnum happily makes his way back home to the reserve to report to an elder for interpretation.
  • Finally, as Burnum makes his way into the reserve, he is greeted by his family and a village elder. He is congratulated on his acceptance into the community as an adult. Burnum explains his vision to the elder, mentioning the bear and its teachings. The elder says that Burnum's vision means that he will be a leader in the community. He says that a bear symbolizes power and hold an aura of authority, which is a figure Burnum will assume in the future. He mentions that a bear holds mysterious elements and great strength as well. The elder finally exclaims that Burnum's future life role is a protector and an authoritative figure.
