Storyboard Text

  • Frederick was a rock who lived on El Capitan in Yosemite National Park. He was very happy there but he craved adventure
  • What's going on?!
  • One night it rained very hard, this rain broke up poor Frederick by weathering
  • Frederick's broken pieces were carried down a river where erosion broke him up even more
  • Ahhh! Help me!
  • I'm in little pieces :(
  • The river carried Frederick to the sea where the process of deposition settled out his broken pieces
  • Over millions of years the weight of new layers of sediment squeezed Frederick's pieces tightly together this process is called compaction
  • It is getting very claustrophobic in here
  • While the compaction was going on, minerals glued Frederick's pieces to the other particles of sediment in layers. Frederick was now a sedimentary rock!
  • The End!
