Chipmunk and Bear by: Sequoia Duncan and Allison Kasse
There once was a very indignant bear. He thought he could do anything and everything.
One afternoon, a small chipmunk decided to see if the bear could keep the sun from rising the next morning. The small rodent knew Bear was going to fail but wanted to make him feel small.
The chipmunk went to sleep in his nest, but the bear waited all night. he sat and watched the sky through the night until morning. he assured himself "The sun will not rise today."
However, the sun did rise, and Bear was very angry. The chipmunk made a decision he would soon regret when he began to taunt Bear. Bear began to chase Chipmunk.
Chipmunk ran from bear all the way back to his nest, but when he was diving back into his hole, Bears claws drug along his back leaving three long scratches.
Chipmunk and all his descendents now wear these three marks to represent the respect one should have for the forest and it's creatures.
