Canada has built a reputation over the years for being a vastly multicultural country. This is because of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act, which has determined who can immigrate to Canada since 2002. Aside from our own needs, this act was written to incorporate the views of the immigrants themselves, and thus we try to accept as many immigrants as we can.
The family class and economic immigrants we let in do good to our economy in many forms, and also help the immigrants themselves. However, there are factors we must be wary of when choosing who to let in. How can the problems and benefits be sorted out properly? And which of these factors should be looked at more seriously by the government?
With over 20,000 vulnerable lives a year coming to Canada, completely trusting us with their future, it is very important that we know how to handle them. That is why we immediately let people who claim to be refugees into Canada. Apart from refugees, we only accept immigrants that will benefit Canada. This is because the economy is the most important factor.
The biggest reason that we accept economic immigrants is to increase our workforce. Immigrants come from all over the world and contribute to the Canadian workforce and fill our labor shortages. This directly puts a positive spin on the economy, which results in small businesses thriving, and the industries that run our country, such as oil, are from then on in less danger of running dry from labor shortage. The immigrants coming in give and take from our economy, but this extra money in the system will act like an economic cushion.
One in five Canadians were not born here. If it weren't for them, our economy and way of life would be unimaginably different.
That is why economy is the most important factor to affect our immigration legislature. From one Canadian to another, thank you for being here.
