Storyboard Text

  • Good morning class, today we are discussing about the cell theory
  • Does anyone know a little thing about our topic?
  • Ma'am there are three postulates of the cell theory
  • That's right, but we should know first that the discovery of the cell was made through the invention of the microscope between 1665-1838
  • The first postulate of the cell theory is is all living organisms are composed of cells
  • Ma'am the English scientist Robert Hooke coined the term “cell” for the box-like structures he observed when viewing cork tissue through a lens
  • That's right and by the late 1830s,botanist Matthias Schleiden and zoologist Theodor Schwann were studying tissues and proposed the unified cell theory. The unified cell theory states that: all living things are composed of one or more cells; the cell is the basic unit of life; and new cells arise from existing cells.
  • The second postulate of the cell theory is all cells come from pre existing cells by division
  • Robert Remak , a prominent neurologist and embryologist discovered that the origin of cells was by the division of pre-existing cells
  • Based on Rudolf Virchow investigations and experiments, he stated that all cells come from preexisting cells, which is the 2nd part of the cell theory: all existing cells are produced by other living cells
  • That's all for today, thank you for listening
  • And the last is cells contains heredity information which is passed from cell to cell during cell division. The cell is the most basic unit of life
