  • Education Reform
  • This is only one of the very few schools that we have. Not everyone can be educated, Horace.
  • Where are all of the kids? Is this everyone that attends school?
  • Our means of education are the grand machinery...
  • Education Reform By: Alyssa Seyer
  • Hooray!
  • Things are finally turning around!
  • Horace Mann was a young boy who went to school only ten weeks a year. But even this short amount of time made him quite lucky. Few areas had public schools.
  • Blacks don't belong in schools!
  • Women are weak! They don't deserve education!
  • Mann went on to become Massachusetts's State Supervisor of Education. With this position he made his opinion about public education clear.
  • Be ashamed to die, until you have won some victory for humanity...
  • By 1850 many states had excepted Mann's ideas. Soon most white children, specifically boys, were on their way to school.
  • However, public education in most states was not offered to everyone. Girls and African Americans were still subjected to stereotypes.
  • Mann saw the issue and decided to do more than speak out. He created a school that accepted both boys and girls. There, he encouraged them to be the generation of changes.
