  • Median
  • Absolute value is the distance from 0. Just like distance its always positive. Kate wanted to know the absolute value for -5. She know what absolute value means so all she has to do is change the sign to positive, so the absolute value is 5. If the numbr is already positive keep it positive.
  •          Additive Inverse
  • To find a mean you have to add up all the numbers and divide the sum by the total of how many numbers. Robert wanted to find the mean of the comic books at the newsstand.  The prices were $7,7,5,6,5. The sum of those numbers is 30 and there is 5 comic books, divide 30 by 5 and 6 is the mean.
  • Interquartile Range
  • A median is the middle number. If the amount of numbers were odd then it will be easier. When the numbers are even you have to take the 2 middle numbers,add them together,then divide by 2. Faith and 6 more of her friends were making smores, and they wanted to find the median of all there smores they made put together.  Smores made per person: 5,3,2,4,5,4,3 The median is 4. One of Faith's friends left now its 6 of them,which is a even number. They wanted to find the median off the smores now. Smores made per person: 5,3,2,4,4,3 Add the 2 middle numbers 2+4=6, Now divide the sum by 2. The median is 3.
  • Upper Quartile
  • Additive Inverse is the number that, when added to, a yield zero. Amir had borrowed $15 from sophia and when he got $15 he had to pay sophia back what he owed her. The operation for his problem would be -15 + 15 = 0. That was an additive inverse operation.
  • The interquartile range (IQR) is a measure of variability, based on dividing a data set into quartiles. Quartiles divide a rank-ordered data set into four equal parts. The values that divide each part are called the first, second, and third quartiles. If you wanted to divide a pizza into 4 pieces you would have "25%.50%,75%,100%" 4 equal parts.
  • The upper quartile is the median of the upper half of a data set. This is located by dividing the data set with the median and then dividing the upper half that remains with the median.
