Farmers were the backbone of China's economy. Most of the farms were small and grew wheat, millet, barley, beans, and/or rice.
The Han followed the example of the Qin dynasty in terms of a strong central government, keeping the noblemen weak. A pyramid-like caste system was established: emperors on top and slaves on bottom.
The fall of the Han dynasty took place roughly during the reign of the Han dynasty's last ruler, Xian. The empire was bound to fall as there were too many factions vying for the throne.
Warlord Dong Zhuo destroyed the Han dynasty's institutions and split the vast empire into "regional regimes" ruled by fellow warlords, including some from the Han imperial court.
