how sine, cosine, and tangent were discovered

- Hello! My name is Aryabhata and this is the story of how my children came to be. I discovered the sine and cosine; Muhammad ibn Musa al-Khwarizimi discovered tangent.

- I am a mathematician and one day I was thinking I need functions that relate an angle with a ratio of two sides in a right triangle. So I decided to look for them. I was out on a walk with my friend,Muhammad ibn Musa al-Khwarizimi, and we found these children outside the playground. The other children won't play with them because they were different. We took them to my house and to my surprise they were exactly what I was looking for. I named them sine, cosine, and tangent. I adopted sine and cosine and Muhammad ibn Musa al-Khwarizimi adopted tangent. We taught them how to turn their differences into their powers. Now I will let them explain their powers( aka their roles)
- My name is sine (aka soh). I am the trigonometric function that is equal to the ratio of the side opposite a given angle (in a right triangle) to the hypotenuse. The soh is sine= opposite/ hypotenuse. I can be used to solve problems involving distance or height, or if you need to know an angle measure.
- My name is cosine (aka cah). I am the trigonometric function that is equal to the ratio of the side adjacent a given angle (in a right triangle) to the hypotenuse. The cah is cosine= adjacent/ hypotenuse. I am useful for finding the third side of a triangle when we know two sides and the angle between them the angles of a triangle when we know all three sides.
- My name is tangent (aka toa). I am the trigonometric function that is equal to the ratio of the side opposite a given angle (in a right triangle) to the adjacent. The toa is tangent= opposite/ adjacent. I help you to find missing sides and angles of right triangles.
