Once there was two friends. Emma, Miranda, and their dog Luna. Who lived in a college dorm.
Good news Emma, there was nothing dire that raised our concern... Though we would like to run an fMRI, to get a better look at your migraines. Now an fMRI would give us a closer examination of your neural activity. Because migraines are a disabling of neurological condition.
Okay, but why not just an MRI?
Now Emma was in college, to get a major as a scientist. This meant A LOT of work for her. So it was thought because of that, that is why she got migraines almost everyday.
Though her friend Miranda was worried for Emma because most kids did not have as much headaches as she. So she encouraged her to go see a doctor.
Emma goes to the doctor...
They go on to do her fMRI scan that would show her neural activity in her brain . In order to see if there was anything abnormal to the average
Hey Emma the results came back good no unusual activity it just showed us that most of your brain activity was shown in your Hypothalamus from the brains Limbic System. This is where your emotions and production of hormones occur. That is why you have these emotional roller coasters. And also in your occipital lobe and temporal lobe, this is why light and sounds affect the magnitude of your migraine. Now to answer your question from earlier, in this case an MRI would have not been helpful. An MRI would be most used in situations like head trauma, stroke, tumors, or brain aneurysms. Because it would show us pictures almost similar to x-rays but without exposure to radiation.
