  • It's another hot sunny day, the sun is shining bright and everything seems quite. But little do we know, a whole new world of energy awaits within the plants....
  • A photon from the sun hits the plant and begins a wonderous process called the light dependent reaction.

  • Chlorophyl gets hit by the photon and a electron absobs that energy and gets excited. The goal now: to convert the energy from the electrons to something the plant can use. Now the excited electron jumps onto another chlorophyl through a moble electron carrier.

  • The chloroplash which has now lost the energy starts to freak out and in hopes of restoring the balance, it splits water. Stealing one of its electrons in hopes of replacing its old one.

  • The oxygen then leaves the plant, which is why we can breath. The chlorophyll steals a electron from the hydrogen creating a hydrogen ion. Which over time multiplies and creates a hydrogen ion concetration gradient.

  • These electrons get picked up by electron carriers and get carried to PSII (photo system 2). Where the proton build up causes the high concentration gradient to push the electron through ATP synthase and draggs a hydrogen ion along with it
