On an autumn day, a powerful earthquake had occurred, 7.6 on the Richter scale. Malala was in school when it occurred and they were sent home. When she came home, she found her mother reciting verses from the Holy Qu'ran. The TNSM helped the victims of the earthquake, more than the government, like taking in orphans. This is important because it made the country vulnerable and it sets up events which affect everyone's lives.
A man, claiming to be a mustfi, Islam scholar, threatens and calls the girl's school blasphemy and how the girls and guys go though the same gate. The man would not back down until her father offered a compromise and a boy didn't want her on his team because of her school and she was a girl. It is important because it shows the sexism against women and the degrading. It shows that Malala won't stand for it though.
There is this radio, Radio Mullah, which tells people to stop watching movies and other stuff and go back to old Islamic law, many agree because the justice system is corrupt. But, he degraded women and said that school for girls is blasphemy. Her father said that the guy had no religious credentials and was a high school dropout. It is important because it showed how someone can manipulate many vulnerable people.
