- Ellie and her Mum often talk about her childhood and the time Cafcass helped the court to decide if she should spend time with her Dad. Ellie doesn't remember much about it, her Mum lost the report and her memories are fuzzy. Ellie decided to ask Cafcass what information they can tell her.

- So she wrote an email to Cafcass and asked for all of her information, this is called a Subject Access Request (SAR)She attached her ID and proof of address to help Cafcass find her information.
- Response to your SAR
- Sharna is a Customer Services Officer at Cafcass and she was happy to read Ellie's email. Sharna contacted Ellie and asked for Ellie's Mum and Dad's names and dates of birth. This information helped Sharna to find Ellie's information and she started the SAR.
- At the end of the 1 month, Sharna sent an email to Ellie with all of the documents that Ellie was allowed to see. Along with a letter attached which explained all about her SAR. Ellie's SAR included lots of documents with all the information about why Ellie's family went to court
- Ellie now understands why the judge asked Cafcass to meet with Ellie and her brother to understand their wishes and feelings about spending time with their Dad. Nothing was a shock to Ellie but it was a little bit emotional for her to read. The report was included in Ellie's SAR and it had parts that were missing (redacted).
- Ellie wanted to know why she didn't get the full report as it was about her and her family. Sharna explained that there are rules about what can be shared with Ellie legally but that she can contact Sharna at any time if she has any questions and she will be happy to help as much as she can.
