Storyboard Text

  • Holden was just a little man in Texas.
  • Abraham Lincoln was elected president one day
  • Holden's nights were not filled with much sleep
  • Holden had a lot of slaves. He made them do all of the hard work on his plantation and the only thing he ever gave them was a beating.
  • Holden heard of fighting in Kansas
  • Abraham Lincoln didn't like the south having slaves
  • A few weeks later, Holden woke up to a missing slave
  • He was living in fear that one day he would have to work for himself, as more states like California and Kansas pushed to be free states, that he would one day have to do work himself
  • At the capital, Lincoln and Douglas were debating, causing tension between the North and the South.
  • John Brown was executed for slaughtering pro-slavery men. Holden was furious over this and wanted to retaliate
  • He discovered his slaves had escaped on the underground railroad. Holden's anger was building, and he knew everyone else in the south had to feel the same way. Between Abraham LIncoln's election, an imbalance of slave and free states, fighting in Kansas, and the underground railroad, Holden was ready to rebel
  • Later that year in 1860, fighting broke out and the country was split in a civil war. Holden wanted his slaves so bad that he went and fought, and eventually lost his life.
