With all the stuff that was going on at the church, a lot of religious problems and indulgences were given from Martin Luther.
Then Martin Luther writes a list of arguments against the church called the 95 Thesis.
Luther decides that he wanted to form his own religious church.
But the Catholic Church condemned Luther and rejected his ideas.
Martin refused to take back his teachings, and argued that the bible was the only source of religious authority.
Even though Martin was excommunicated from the Catholic Church, Lutheranism was the first of a series of "protestant" Christian faiths that broke from the Catholic Church.
