  • George Washington protested the British policy “taxation without representation” in 1769. This helped colonists realize how unfair the taxing was. He brought a package of non importation resolutions before the Virginia House of Burgesses.
  • “They will pay for that ! “
  • 5 civilians were killed by British soldiers on March 5, 1770. This incident was forever known as the Boston Massacre.
  • ” Give me LIBERTY or give me DEATH!“
  • ” The war is envitable - and let it come! “
  • Britain passed the Tea Act allowing their company to sell cheap tea, undermining the colonists in 1773. Massachusetts colonists protested by an incident known as the British Tea Party.
  • ”THE SHOT HEARD AROUND THE WORLD”
  • Britain passed the Intolerable Acts to punish Massachusetts’ actions and restore British authority in the American colonies. The Acts were the: Boston Port Act, Quartering Act, Quebec Act, Massachusetts Gov. Act, Admin. of Justice Act.
  • ”My King, The colonists have thrown out 342 chests of tea into the harbor. “
  • Patrick Henry delivered famous speech referring to the warlike preparations of the British and making an urgent call to arms on March 23, 1775.
  • The Battle of Lexington and the Battle of Concord started the American Revolution April 19, 1775.
