I feel so sick! I have itchy red blisters all over my body!
You seem really sick! Let's go to the docter
So how bad is it? Am I going to be okay?
You Have Chicken Pox. Luckily, it is one of the few self-diagnosable diseases
It's caused by the varicella-zoster virus and is a retrovirus. Symptoms include red itchy blisters, swollen lymph nodes, headache, fever, and loss of appetite
However, the Varicella-zoster virus returns as an adult in the form of Shingles which is a painful red rash. Once your Chicken pox goes away, remember to take the Shingles vaccine
How do we treat chicken pox?
Treatments include antiviral medications or antihistamine.
How does my body fight Chickenpox?
When the Varicella-zoster virus enters the body, the macrophages destroy the germs. The T-cells help create antibodies that paralyze and kill the virus. Finally, specialized T and B cells keep a memory of the virus so next time the virus attacks the body, the immune system knows how to fight and kill it.
Thanks for your help Doc, I'll see you next week for a weekly checkup!
Finally, how could have I gotten Chickenpox and how could I avoid it in the future?
You will get Chicken Pox by close contact with someone who has Chicken Pox. Finally, you can avoid it by getting the Chicken Pox vaccine or by avoiding someone showing the symptoms of Chicken Pox
