This is the story of Miss Emily Grierson. She died at the age of 74 a very secluded lady, although the town rarely saw her they came to pay their respects but also came out of curiosity. Her father was well-known in the town and they lived together in the house until his death. The death of her father left her obscured.
After the Civil War, a man by the name of Homer Barren comes to town with a construction company from the North. The town is made aware of Homer as he a minority and is labeled as a Yankee. Despite this, the town people enjoy his company. During his time in town, he has an eye for Miss Emily.
Over time, the town starts to see Homer and Miss Emily together. It was during their time together that the townspeople begin to assume that they are meant to be married.
After some time, the towns start to see less of the two. One day Miss Emily goes to purchase very potent poison, the druggist gives her the poison because he feels bad for her since she is so detached.
After Miss Emily's funeral, some townspeople enter a closed-off room in her neglected house, which is furnished with wedding relics and is covered in dust. It is in this room they discover the body of what once was Homer Barron.
The skeleton of what once was Homer Barron many years prior was found in the bed laying beside an indent with grey hair on the pillow next to him...
