Rome was a REPUBLIC. A republic is a form of government with elected leaders. In that form of government there is an assembly of centuries there are the two CONSUL in the assembly. A consul is one of two chief leaders in the republic the assembly also work as judges.
In the roman republic a consul had the right to veto a law. VETO is what happens when people refuse to proposal of government made by the SENATE. The senate is a group of 300 men elected to govern Rome in the roman republic. There are two consuls in the republic one consul had to be a PLEBEIAN and one had to be a PATRICIAN.
The senate contained to advisers to the consul and the other government officials. The senate held their power for life and could approve or veto laws passed by the senate. They senate can decide how much money is spent in the government and could make decisions about relations with other countries.
The roman republic eventually fall when Julius Ceaser and took over as a dictator. He was on his way to a government meeting and all his admires were all telling him not to go. He had to tell the crowd that he was going when his very young friend Brutus told him that should go and that he would stay with him.
Ceaser went with Brutus who he trusted and was rasing to be just like him so that when Ceaser died the empire could still live on until eventually Brutus died as well. they went in to the government building and it was dark in there they didn't see any of the other government officials or any of the senate.
As Brutus and Ceaser were leaving the senate came into the room in their white robs and they all pulled little daggers from their pockets and started to stab Ceaser. Brutus took a dagger from his pocket and also started to stab Ceaser with it. Ceaser looked up at Brutus and siad "you to Brutus"
