  • Hi I am creating a bill that will make public school lunches free for students and staff. My bill will be introduced when the reading clerk reads the bill and places it in the hopper. Also, it will be given a label. Then my bill will be assigned to a Committee by the speaker of house
  • A committee acts as a filter, to decide which legislation makes it to the house floor. My bill can be recommended, pigeonholed, changed.Hopefully, my bill doesn't get pigeonholed (put away)
  • wait whats a committee?
  • Then it will go to the house rules committee if passed. They set rules for the bill and if they don't grant a rule it will die. After that the house votes on the bill. If that succeeds my bill is going to the Senate! Over there the bill goes to the desk of the senate president. And it will be assigned to a senate committee. They will recommend, pigeonhole, amend, or change the bill. Then they will vote on the bill. but Senators can cause a FILIBUSTER. which means the senator can talk for as long as they want to stop the vote on bill.
  • WOW! That's really interesting tell me more!
  • If the bill is passed at the senate it will be sent to the Conference Committee. They need to agree on the bill for it to work. If they can't the bill is dead. Then it is sent to the president of the US. The president can sign it, veto it, do nothing, or pocket veto. When he vetos it goes back to congress for possible override.
  • And finally if the bill is signed by the President I have a bill!
  • Dude I stoped listening like two hours ago I don't care anymore.
