  • In the year 1324, Mansa Musa, the king of the Mali empire, had plans for going on a pilgrimage to Mecca.
  • I must make a pilgrimage to Mecca. I could get a lot of ideas on the way!
  • Mansa Musa took his men with him and had them carry tons of gold with them.
  • To Mecca!
  • Mansa Musa took 60,000 men with him and 12,000 of them were slaves. All had heaps of gold and fine persian silk. Each camel had hundreds of pure pounds of gold.
  • Mansa Musa handed out a lot of gold to the people who lived in Cairo that the value of gold plummeted for ten years and bringing an enormous drop to the economy. He also had built a lot of mosques on his way
  • He did his prayer at Mecca.
  • The king returned home, finishing his pilgrimage and brought in a lot of ideas.
