Storyboard Text

  • Have you ever wondered how the Roman Empire collapsed?
  • The Roman Empire was one of the largest empires of the ancient world, but even Rome couldn't last forever.
  • The first reason that Rome fell is that the empire became too large to govern.  The Roman army became too spread out.
  • Christianity was another threat to Rome. The religion taught pacifism, so Christians wouldn't fight to defend Rome. Christians were also more loyal to the church than Rome.
  • The empire was attacked by many barbarian groups, culminating in the sack of Rome by the Goths in 410 AD.
  • There wasn't enough money to support the army and government and rich citizens spent too much on luxury goods.
  • Finally, rich and powerful people became more interested in having fun than protecting the Roman Empire and many left Rome.
