Storyboard Text

  • Hi, I'm Shivhan. I'm on Robben Island. This is Mr Nelson Mandela, one of the greatest leaders. He was a Freedom Fighter. He was the 466th prisoner to come to Robben Island in 1964. He spent 18 years on Robben Island.
  • Mr Mandela. Your prison cell is so small with just a mat to sleep on, a bucket and a small table. What did you do in your cell.
  • I learnt new things, like Afrikaans. The security guards started to respect me for it I also wrote my book called "Long Walk To Freedom"
  • When I was allowed outside, I planted grapevines in the courtyard. Here I used to talk to the other prisoners who were my friends. We used to talk about politics and sneak notes to each other.
  • We worked here in the Limestone Quarry in the hot sun for most of the day. It was hard work. We had to also crush the stone. It was used to make the roads on Robben Island.
  • Mr Mandela, what were you'll doing here?
