This was one of the first flag for the 13 united states. This was mainly used from about 1776-1777 before the Betsy Ross Flag. This flag was flown over George Washington's base on Prospect Hill on January 1st, 1776.
Approval of the Flag
There is a legend that Gorge Washington went to his friend who was a seamstress who then sewed the first American Flag. It was made a year before it was approved. The friend a seamstress was Betsy Ross from Philadelphia.
Flag was first flown at the battle of Cooche's Bridge in September 1777, which the colonists lost to the British and German forces.

A year after the flag was made it was approved by the Continental Congress on June 14 1777.

Ever since the flag was approved, we've added stars as the states were added. Its been flown on official buildings, and on uniforms to eventually become the 50 star american flag we know today.
