Hernan Cortes was born in Medellin, Spain in 1485. He sailed from 1504-1540.
In 1518, Hernan Cortes was assigned to command his own expedition to Mexico, but Velazquez canceled it. He set sail anyways for Mexico in 1519 with over 500 men on 11 ships. He wanted to find a fortune in the New World.
Hernan Cortes became allies with some of the native people he met, but he a deadly force with the other men to conquer Mexico. In 1522, King Charles I appointed him government of New Spain. Later, after fighting in Honduras, he came back to Spain and his governorship was taken away from him.
