Gladiators were slaves or volunteers that fought with animals, criminals, and other gladiators to the death in the big arena called the Colosseum. People all over Rome watch gladiators fight. High officials also watched gladiators fight. Some gladiators were segregated after their deaths. Every gladiator fight ended in a blood bath.
Gladiators also fought animals. Some of the animals were lions, tigers, Boars, bears and even dogs. to the spectators, the more vicious the animal was, the more the crowd enjoyed the fight.
If the gladiator was lucky enough to win there was a range of things that could happen. From being set free from slavery (if they were slaves) to a wreath and even a pat on the back. There was a specific ritual. The loser would be on one knee and holding the winners leg, then then winner would grasp the losers head and cut though his neck with the weapon.
