Father Vincent Cochrane had an idea to start a school , Bishop Stewart gave him money to help start the school. Father Vincent Cochrane wrote to the FMDM's Mother Mary, Sr. Gertrude,Sr. Cecilia and Sr. Laurentia asking them to come teach the kids at school
Father Vincent Cochrane and the FMDM sisters were on the boat from Ireland to Nathail, there first stop Melborn and then they came to Nathail
Father Vincent Cochrane surprised them with a garden party to make feel welcome
The nuns started to build the school and they said thy will be done when they were building the school
On 1961 the 8 of February the school opened for the first time to the public, they had 120 primary kids and 5 secondary students
Now St.Marys split into two schools St.francis and St.Marys, there are a lots of students at both schools. SMOTA has 656 students now and it's a great school.
