We are going to be stuck on this island? Who is going to come rescue us!
Whoever has the conch, has the right to speak
I saw a snake! It was a monster and I am so scared
Do not worry! If we see it again, we will kill it
Thanks for the glasses Piggy!!!
We are both gathering up wood!
Stop it Jack
Ralph, Jack, and Simon return from surveying the island and call a meeting using a conch. Ralph tells the group that there are no adults on the island and they need to organize a few things for themselves. Ralph declares that whoever has the conch, that boy must have the right to speak, and so the others can listen silently. Piggy gets mad because he thinks that nobody will find them at the island nor be rescued.
Guys! One of the littluns are missing. We need to go and find them
We'll look later Piggy
A younger boy takes the conch but whispers to Piggy asking what they’re going to do throughout the snake thing since. Ralph assures there is no such thing, but he insists many of the other boys. One of the younger children, a small boy with a mulberry-colored mark on his face, claims that he saw a snake like “beastie” or monster the night before. All the little uns get scared. But Jack says if they find it, they’ll kill it.
Ralph proposes they should make a signal fire around the mountain, so that way any passing ships could see the fire and see the boys who are stuck at the island. Once they arrive at the mountain, the boys collect a decent amount of dead wood and use the lenses from Piggy’s glasses to set it on fire and focus on the sunlight.
Ralph suggests that there should be a special group in charge of the fire. Jack volunteers his choir boys. Then, the boys start arguing and Piggy says they should have built shelters first. Lastly, Piggy tells the boys that the one of the little uns who told the story about the snake is missing after playing over by the fire. The boys were shocked and then acted like nothing happened.
