- Today was a good day- Who's that?
- You're our new neighbor, aren't you?
- How oddly you say that.
- I'd-I'd have known it with my eyes shut.
- And you must be...the fireman.
- What- the smell of kerosene? My wife always complains. You never wash it off completely.
- Of course, why not?
- Kerosene, it's nothing but perfume to me.
- I don't know.
- Does it seem like that, really?
- No you don't.
- Do you mind if I walk home with you? I'm Clarisse McClellan.
- Clarisse. Guy Montag. Come along. What are you doing out so late wandering around? How old are you?
- Well, I'm seventeen and crazy. My Uncle says the two always go together. When people ask your age always say that.
- Isn't it a nice time of night to walk? I like to smell and look at things. Sometimes I'll stay up all night just to see the sun rise.
- You know, I'm not afraid of you at all.
- So many people are. Afraid of firemen, I mean. But you're just a man after all....
