Storyboard Text

  • Somewhere in the Appalachian Mountains, acid rain wiped out all life... and it's up to primary succession to save it!
  • First, the acid of lichens breaks the rock down. | Pioneer Species
  • More lichens follow, and further break up the rock into soil.
  • After many years, eventually enough soil will be created to support moss. | Intermediate Species
  • Moss will eventually be replaced with ferns, and the insects and then shrubs over time as more soil is created. | Intermediate Species
  • Sometimes even thousands of years later, enough soil will build up for trees to form, and an ecosystem will have been created! | Climax Species
