Storyboard Text

  • The Spanish set sail for England on the 28th May 1558
  • The Spanish Armada was spotted and England prepared for battle
  • Between the 20th and the 27th July English sailors attacked the armada. They fought in the English Channel
  • The Spanish were anchored near Calais when the English sent out fire ships to attack them. The Spanish separated.
  • The sides met again. The Spanish were not organised and the English ships were smaller and faster than the Spanish ones.
  • The Spanish began to retreat. They tried to get back to Spain by sailing around Scotland. The weather was bad and many of their ships sank.
