  • Soon after Jean Batten finished school, she became interested in planes. Her mother took Jean to Sydney for a flying lesson with Charles Kingsford Smith.
  • Hello!
  • Jean Batten sailed to England (and stayed with her brother, John) with her Mother and joined the London Aeroplane Club where she got her licence.
  • Jean grabbed the media's attention when she flew from Australia to England after two failed attempts from England to Australia in 1934.  
  • Jean Batten toured Australia and New Zealand and did talks for the public.
  • In October 1936, Jean did the first ever direct solo flight from England to New Zealand
  • She slowly disappeared from the public's view and died in 1984 from a dog bite.
