Storyboard Text

  • The 13th Amendment
  • No more slavery!
  • The 13th Amendment was issued by Abraham Lincoln, banning all slavery in the United States
  • Abraham Lincoln knew that all men were created equal and that slavery needed to be abolished
  • The slaves are free!
  • Finally!
  • Northerners thought that the 13th Amendment was good for the U.S. and knew it needed to happen
  • Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as punishment for crime where of the party shall have been duly convicted shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction
  • Whites in the South did not like the 13th Amendment. They thought it was better to own slaves. The South did not want to be equal to the blacks. The 13th amendment forced slave owners to get rid of their slaves, causing them to be extremely upset
  • WE'RE FREE!!
  • I'm going North!
  • I'm staying in the South
  • After the 13th Amendment was issued, some slaves went to the North to start over, while other slaves stayed in the South where they were guaranteed a place to live and something to eat
  • The 13th Amendment helped the slaves by giving them the right to be free and not be someone's property. It gave them the right to be equal to everyone else. Although some people did not like the 13th Amendment, it changed the United States in a good way and benefited many people
