"Is it true? There be fourteen women arrested?"(852).
Mary Warren comes into the Proctors' home with a gift, not knowing about the conversation they were having before her arrival.
Tell the court how the poppet came here and who stuck the needle.
Mary Warren has come from the court house and explains what has been happening, telling them that Elizabeth has been accused of witchcraft by Abigail. She tells them that in court, she denied feeling any similar presence of Elizabeth.
I don't want to hang.
"I cannot, they'll turn on me"(862).
Please don't hurt me.
The Proctors heard about women being arrested because of witchcraft, and Mary says that more have been arrested than they had originally known of.
Time Lapse: Elizabeth has been taken for suspicion of witchcraft because of the poppet the sheriff found with a needle pushed into its stomach, just as Abigail proclaimed in court. Mary Warren admitted that the poppet was hers and she put the pin in to John Proctor. He tells her to come with him to court.
Mary says that she can not tell the court or they'll turn on her and accuse her of witchcraft.
