  • I was born in Springdale, Pennsylvania May 27th 1967. When I turned 11 I won my first prize for a story published in St. Nicholas Magazine.
  • Short radio program writing52 programs
  • I attended Parnassus High School in Kensington, PA, where I graduated with honors and a scholarship to Pennsylvania College for women. My dreams was to major in english and become a teacher. In my college years I had switched my major to Biology. Professor Mary Scott Skinker affected my decision to change majors.
  • At Woods Hole, MA I furthered my studies for marine biology. I obtained my scholarship from John Hopkins University for an MA in Zoology. My stay at Hopkins during 1929-1932, I had an internship with Raymond Pearls Institute for Biological Research, School of Hygiene and Public Health, Genetic research. I also taught Zoology during their summer school.
  • In 1936 I was employed by Bureau of Fisheries in the Department of Commerce as a junior aquatic Biologist. This is where I had to write 52 short radio programs on marine life. In 1939 I was promoted to Assistant Aquatic Biologist, in the same year DDT was first discovered as a modern, synthetic insecticides.
  • By 1951 I resigned from the US fish and Wildlife Service to continue Free lance writing full time. In 1952 I was honored by several people and won many awards. The national Book award for Non Fiction, The John Burroughs Medal for Nature writing, The New York Zoological Society Gold Medal of the Geographical Society, and etc.
  • Silent Spring was published in 1962 and became my bestseller and would influence government views on pesticides. Eventually overtime i would light up a path for scientist and women into modern science.
